2022 Seasonal Posts:

Swift Fieldworker (2 posts, May to August)

To survey Swifts and work with community groups to establish local Swift conservation projects. Based in Limerick, with a second location yet to be confirmed.

Tern Wardens (6-8 posts, March to August)

To protect, monitor and study breeding terns. Applicants must be prepared to work in a remote location and in a small team.

Potential locations:

  • Rockabill Island (Co. Dublin)
  • Kilcoole (Little Tern) colony (Co. Wicklow)
  • Lady’s Island Lake (Co. Wexford)
  • Dalkey Island (Co. Dublin) (part time: includes public engagement events)

Senior Seabird Warden, Lady’s Island (1  post, March to September)

To manage tern project at Lady’s Island.

Tern project Conservation Gamekeepers/Night Wardens (2 posts) (late April – July)

Little Tern Protection Scheme at Kilcoole.

Breeding Wader Fieldworker, Co. Donegal (approx. 2 days per week)

To survey breeding wader populations (mainly Snipe) in Donegal and prepare a report of findings.

Job Summary:

BirdWatch Ireland may be in a position to recruit for various seasonal posts for the 2022 breeding season (all subject to successful tender bids and/or confirmation of funding). The roles will involve carrying out agreed programmes of bird surveys, habitat management, research work and/or species recovery work, alone or as part of a small team. Most posts are available between April and September and require previous survey or field research experience and excellent bird identification skills. Lady’s Island  tern positions (Warden and Senior Warden): noon on Monday 7th February 2022.

All other posts: noon on Friday 18th February 2022.
