Our Dublin-Fingal branch invite yo to join them for a visit to Portmarnock-Baldoyle Estuary.
Portmarnock Beach is located in North County Dublin, between Malahide and Baldoyle. The beach is a popular amenity with locals and visitors alike. The beach is approximately 8 Kilometers long. It is a tidal beach, which makes it a good amenity for swimming. The shoreline is a mix of sandy beaches and rocks that are exposed at low tide. The rocky shoreline attracts a wide variety of birds. Large flocks of waders such as Dunlin, Sanderling and Ringed Plaver can gather here as the tide is coming. It is also a good location for Gulls, Curlews, Oystercatchers and Turnstones. Terns can be seen in Summer.
There is a free carpark just outside the town of Malahide. Alternatively, there are several parking locations along the road that runs from Malahide to Portmarnock. Parking is free, but avoid any area where there may be yellow lines. You can walk the shoreline from just outside Malahide to the “Velvet Strand” in just under half an hour. You can also park here at the entrance to the beach.
