Join our Clare branch for a trip to Ballyallia Lake, north of Ennis.

Ballyalla Lake, also known as Ballyallia Lough, is a small lake on the River Fergus, north of the town of Ennis in County Clare, Ireland. It covers an area of 308 hectares, it is an important site for waterbirds, and has been recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

The lake holds breeding Great Crested and Little Grebes. Coot and Moorhen are also plentiful. Winter Birds include a feeding flock of approximately 40 Whooper Swans which feed mainly on grassy fields at the Drumcliff graveyard end of the lake.
Ducks commonly found on the lake are, Mallard, Teal, Wigeon, Tufted, Pochard, Pintail and Shoveler in National numbers of importance.
