Join our Wicklow branch for an evening with the Branch Chair Mr Jonathan Stanley discussing his visit to the Knepp rewilding Estate and the Cairngorms Connect Project "Since we began rewilding in 2000, life has poured back to Knepp, including nightingales, turtle doves and purple emperor butterflies – some of the rarest creatures in Britain. Roaming herds of cattle, ponies, pigs and deer shape the land, creating dynamic scrub-land, wild meadows, wetland and wood pasture. Knepp is a story of hope, showing how nature can bounce back, if we let it." The Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) is one of Ireland's longest-running bird monitoring projects. Established in 1998, it tracks the status of common and widespread breeding birds such as Robin, Wren, Blackbird, and Chaffinch, as well as some of the rarer species. The survey is coordinated by BirdWatch Ireland and funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Des has recently returned from a birding trip in Costa Rica and he is going to share his birding experiences Costa Rica is one of the top birdwatching destinations in the world – and with over 900 recorded species, it lives up to the hype. From cloud forests to coastal wetlands, this small country is packed with habitats that attract both resident and migratory birds. With seven endemic species and a tropical climate that supports birding year-round, it’s easy to see why birders keep coming back.
