Breeding Wader Surveys

Cooperation across borders for biodiversity

BirdWatch Ireland in conjunction with a number of partners aims to improve key peatland and wet grassland habitats for breeding waders and other biodiversity by providing nest site protection and habitat restoration in ecologically important areas.

Background

Cooperation Across Borders for Biodiversity (CABB) involves the coming together of no less than six environmental organisations, including; BirdWatch Ireland, RSPB Northern Ireland, RSPB Scotland, Butterfly Conservation, Northern Ireland Water and Moors for the Future. The CABB Project is supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA programme and is a €4.9m 5-year partnership project.

Nest site enhancement and protection

Protecting and enhancing nest sites for Curlew, Lapwing, Redshank and Snipe

 

Habitat restoration

Restoring peatland Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) affected by drainage and grazing management.

 

 

CABB SAC conservation plans

Conservation plans are being created to guide actions on restoring blanket bog on Special Areas of Conservation

 

 

 

 

CABB Breeding Wader Surveys

Cooperating to count and monitor the success of Ireland’s breeding waders.
