BirdWatch Ireland’s Carlow Branch will be holding a dusk chorus upland walk in Gowlin Wood. Meet at the entrance to Gowlin Wood at 19:30. Please click here for a map of the location.

This evening walk will take us through a mix of habitats with some fantastic views of the Blackstairs and wider Carlow countryside along the way. Stonechat, Grasshopper Warbler, Cuckoo and Great Spotted Woodpecker are just some of the bird species we hope to encounter. The dusk chorus should be in full swing and we will hopefully chance upon some displaying Woodcock as dusk approaches. We will as usual be keeping an eye out for mammals, wildflowers and invertebrates too – Marsh Fritillaries breed nearby.

This walk will cover forest tracks, some uneven upland terrain and possibly muddy paths, so please bring suitable hillwalking clothing, footwear, waterproofs and a drink.
