Cape Clear Bird Observatory Warden

We seeking a suitably qualified and enthusiastic person to take on the role of Warden at BirdWatch Ireland’s Cape Clear Bird Observatory. The Warden will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the property and managing the busy schedule of visiting bird watchers and naturalists during the season. The ideal candidate will have direct experience of survey and monitoring work, excellent bird identification skills, bird ringing experience and excellent communication skills. The closing date for applications is Monday, December 16th, 2024.

Marine Spatial Planning Specialist

We are seeking a Marine Spatial Planning Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a very experienced individual, with a strong scientific background in seabird ecology, excellent knowledge of marine environmental policy and experience of offshore windfarm developments and their potential impacts on seabirds and other marine biodiversity. The closing date for applications has been extended to 9 a.m. on Thursday 18th July.

Retail and Administration Assistant

We are seeking an experienced person to assist with the smooth running of BirdWatch Ireland’s administration, membership and shop operations. The ideal candidate will be someone who has excellent proven retail experience, and enjoys working as part of a team. Knowledge of birds and of conservation is not essential, but is desirable. The closing date for applications has been extended to 17:00 on Monday 15th July 2024.

Conservation Gamekeepers/Night Wardens – Kilcoole Little Tern colony

Management of nest predators (foxes, corvids) to protect Ireland’s largest Little Tern colony, in Co. Wicklow.

Project runs from start of May to end of July. We are seeking to fill vacancies for three nights per week, but willing to fill the position with more than one person so keen to hear from applicants with availability with regular availability of even one night per week.

Seasonal Fieldworker Posts 2024

BirdWatch Ireland may be in a position to recruit for various seasonal posts for the 2024 breeding season (all subject to successful tender bids and/ or confirmation of funding). The roles will involve carrying out agreed programmes of bird surveys, habitat management, research work and / or species recovery work, alone or as part of a small team. Most posts are available between April and August and require previous survey or field research experience and excellent bird identification skills. The posts are outlined below.

Swift Fieldworker (2-3 posts, May – August)

Tern Wardens (4-6 posts, late April – August)

Little Tern project Conservation Gamekeeper/Night Warden (1-3 posts) (late April – July)

Seabird Colony Monitoring Fieldworkers (1-2 positions, late April – August)

East Coast Nature Reserve Warden

BirdWatch Ireland is seeking to recruit a Reserve Warden at our popular East Coast Nature Reserve to deliver the day-to-day management of the reserve, primarily in the management of the public infrastructure and giving direction to our weekly Reserve Volunteer Work Parties. This is a part-time position. Closing date for applications is Wednesday December 20th, with interviews likely to be held in the week starting Monday January 8th.

BirdWatch Ireland is seeking to recruit a Marine IBA Analyst who will work closely with BirdLife International data analysts experienced in delineating and proposing Marine Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (the major subset of Key Biodiversity Areas) for seabirds. BirdWatch Ireland is seeking to recruit a Communications Officer, a position that will be partially funded through the Heritage Council’s 2023 Heritage Capacity Fund as part of BirdWatch Ireland’s Communicating the Wonders of Irish Wildlife 2023 project. The key purpose of this role is to build support for BirdWatch Ireland and to inspire a world richer in nature through delivery of effective communications to identified audiences.

Bird Specialist for Donegal Acres Cooperation Project

BirdWatch Ireland is seeking to recruit a suitable person for the position of Bird Specialist for the Donegal Acres Cooperation Project. The post is for 4 days per week. Skills required include good knowledge of farmland birds, particularly breeding waders, Corncrake and Chough, excellent bird identification and experience of working with farmers. The post-holder should be based in Donegal.
