Welcome to BirdWatch Ireland, the largest independent conservation organisation in Ireland. Established in 1968, we currently have over 15,000 members and supporters and a local network of over 30 branches nationwide.

BirdWatch Ireland’s offices and shop will be closed from 12:30p.m. on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December. We will reopen as normal at 9:00a.m. on Thursday 2nd January.

Irish Garden Bird Survey

The survey will start again from Monday 25th November 2024, and we need your help again to find out how Ireland’s garden birds fare through the cold winter months. The survey is very easy to do, doesn’t require much time, and is a great way to get familiar with the species and behaviours of the birds in your garden. Most importantly, it provides us with really useful information for our monitoring and conservation work!

Discover Ireland’s Birds

In Ireland we have around 200 ‘regularly occurring’ bird species, some of which are here all year round and others that migrate to spend part of the year here. Of those migratory species, some come here for the summer to nest and other comes here to spend the winter. If we include rare ‘vagrant’ species, then over 450 bird species have been recorded in Ireland.
